Domestic Workers: 3% Increase in Two Stages and Bonus of Up to $20,000
The Argentine government has announced a 3% wage increase for domestic workers alongside a bonus of up to $20,000 following a meeting between government officials, employers, and union representatives.
The Argentine government, in conjunction with union representatives and employers within the domestic work sector, has reached an agreement for a new wage increase for domestic workers. This decision was made during a meeting of the National Commission for Work in Private Homes (CNTCP) held at the Secretariat of Labor, Employment and Social Security. The agreement stipulates an initial salary increment of 1.5% set to take effect in February 2026, as well as the provision of a one-time extraordinary bonus that can be as much as $20,000, dependent on the worker's weekly hours.
The meeting, which was officially convened and published via Resolution 1/2026, saw participants discussing the terms and conditions of the wage adjustments. The discussions began at 11 a.m. and were interspersed with a break at 4 p.m. before concluding with an agreement just before 5 p.m. The consensus indicates a commitment towards revisiting the negotiation process in April to potentially establish further wage increments, illustrating the ongoing concern for fair compensation among this critical labor demographic.
This agreement not only addresses immediate financial concerns for domestic workers but also signifies a progressive step towards recognizing their labor rights within the Argentine economy. With the country grappling with inflation and economic challenges, such wage adjustments and bonuses are essential for ensuring that domestic workers can sustain their livelihoods effectively. The commitment to reconvene for future negotiations highlights a proactive approach towards continuous improvement in workers' conditions, which is crucial for the sector's development.
