PSTU launches Hertz Dias' pre-candidacy for president
The PSTU party has announced Hertz Dias as their pre-candidate for the presidency of Brazil in the 2026 elections, positioning him as an opposition figure against the Federal Government and far-right politics.
On Tuesday, the PSTU (Unified Workers' Socialist Party) officially announced Hertz Dias as their pre-candidate for the presidency in the upcoming 2026 elections. This announcement highlights the party's strategy to position itself as a vocal opponent to the current Federal Government and the far-right political movements in Brazil. As the electoral landscape prepares for the official confirmation of candidates, which is expected to take place between July and August, Diasβ candidacy is poised to attract attention from voters seeking alternative options within the political spectrum.
The PSTU also revealed a manifesto titled 'For an Alternative to Break the Gears of the Capitalist System' along with a robust political program. Key proposals include the elimination of the 6x1 work schedule that does not reduce salaries, a general salary increase towards the minimum set by Dieese, and the exemption of Income Tax for salaried workers. Additionally, they are advocating for the repeal of labor and pension reforms that they consider detrimental to workers' rights, thereby emphasizing their commitment to labor protection and economic justice.
By launching Hertz Diasβ campaign and articulating these demands, the PSTU aims to mobilize support from those disillusioned with the current government's policies. This political move not only aims to energize the party's base but also signals a broader intention to reshape the political dialogue in Brazil ahead of a critical election, providing a counter-narrative to existing policies associated with the far-right.
