PT announces the launch of Haddad's pre-candidacy for the government of SP on Friday

The PT party is set to announce Fernando Haddad as a pre-candidate for the São Paulo government in an event featuring President Lula.

The Workers’ Party (PT) will officially announce the pre-candidacy of Fernando Haddad, the current Minister of Finance, for the São Paulo governor's race on Friday, March 20. The announcement is expected to be made during a press event scheduled for 10 AM at the Chemical Workers Union in São Paulo's Liberdade neighborhood, which is a central area of the city. This event will see the participation of significant figures, including President Lula and other ministers from the current administration.

Haddad's transition from his position as Minister of Finance will coincide with a series of events in São Paulo, including his farewell which is planned for the same weekend. Notably, on March 19 and 20, the 17th Federative Caravan will take place, showcasing the federal government's initiatives and expected to feature various government members, including the president. This highlights the PT's push to maintain a presence in São Paulo’s political landscape, particularly with the leadership of Tarcísio de Freitas of the Republicans.

A recent Datafolha poll published by 'Folha de S.Paulo' indicates that the current governor, Tarcísio de Freitas, is leading in the electoral prospects. This sets the stage for a challenging race ahead for Haddad and the PT, as they seek to consolidate support within São Paulo, which has been a critical political battleground, as evidenced by the upcoming events focusing on both Haddad's candidacy and honoring former Uruguayan President Pepe Mujica, emphasizing the party's broader political connections and strategies.
