A minibus transporting 22 high school students from the Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA) overturned on the BR-010 highway in southern Maranhão on the afternoon of October 24. The students were traveling from Itinga do Maranhão to Açailândia when the vehicle reportedly experienced a mechanical failure. Although the incident caused concern, fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the accident, minimizing the potential for a more serious incident.

One student sustained light injuries and received medical attention on-site; they have since been released and are recovering at home with their family. In response to the incident, the IFMA administration is providing support and assistance to the affected students and ensuring they receive the necessary care during this time. The institute also confirmed that the minibus involved was a contracted service and not part of their own fleet.

Authorities are currently investigating the causes behind the accident to prevent such incidents in the future.
