Flora, the cateto that could not live in nature and gained a new home in an aquarium

Flora, a cateto female, was relocated to the world's largest freshwater aquarium due to her inability to survive in the wild after being raised by humans.

Flora, a female cateto, has been moved to the Bioparque Pantanal in Campo Grande, Brazil, following her inability to reintegrate into her natural habitat. Rescued as a pup, she had frequent contact with humans, which hindered her development of necessary survival instincts in the wild. Consequently, the Bioparque was selected as the most suitable environment for her rehabilitation and care.

The cateto was voluntarily handed over to the Center for Wild Animal Rehabilitation (CRAS), where it was determined that she would not be able to return to her natural surroundings. To ensure her well-being, Flora will live in a specially designed enclosure at the Bioparque. Aline Duarte, the coordinator of CRAS, emphasized the importance of providing Flora with an appropriate habitat that also focuses on environmental education for visitors and advocates for wildlife conservation.

Before her transfer, professionals from the Bioparque monitored Flora's condition at CRAS to ensure a smooth transition. This move not only benefits Flora by providing her with a safe and suitable home but also enhances public awareness about wildlife conservation and the challenges faced by rehabilitated animals.
