A 46-year-old man from Blackwater, Queensland, Scott Vincent Ward, has been charged with child abuse offences following allegations that he groomed a mother located in the Philippines. This alleged grooming was conducted through a phone messaging app, with the aim of sexually abusing her two daughters, aged 12 and 16. The charges arose after Australian Border Force officers intercepted Ward upon his return to Brisbane Airport from a trip to Manila in December 2024, leading to a forensic analysis of his phone that corroborated the police's claims.

According to authorities, Ward made persistent demands for child abuse material from the children's mother, who did not comply with his requests. In August 2025, after a thorough investigation, the Australian Federal Police arrested him and executed a search warrant at his residence.
