Authorities from the State Road Administration in Latvia stated that the incident occurred at the 96th kilometer of the Rēzekne highway, specifically between Spundžāni and Greivuļi, close to the bridge over Rēzekne. Due to the ongoing firefighting efforts, traffic has been limited in the area.
According to information from the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia, firefighters received an emergency call at 19:35 regarding a truck fire in the Audriņi parish of Rēzekne municipality. Initial reports indicated that a truck tire had caught fire, which subsequently spread to a six square meter area of the trailer. The trailer was transporting wood chips at the time of the incident.
Emergency services are continuing to work at the scene to manage the situation and bring the fire under control. The incident highlights potential safety concerns on the roads, particularly regarding vehicle maintenance and the hazards associated with transporting flammable materials.
