Six in ten Americans believe Trump is becoming more erratic with age, says survey
A recent Reuters/Ipsos survey reveals that a majority of Americans believe Donald Trump is becoming increasingly erratic as he ages.
According to a new survey released by Reuters/Ipsos, six out of ten Americans, including a significant portion of Republicans, perceive that President Donald Trump is becoming more erratic with age. This study highlights a growing concern about Trump's mental acuity as he reaches the age of 79. Among those surveyed, approximately 61% described Trump as having become erratic, with the perception heavily tilted among Democrats but also noticeable among independents and some Republicans.
The data indicates that 89% of Democratic respondents shared this view, alongside 30% of Republicans and 64% of independents. This sentiment coincides with a significant finding that less than half of the participants (45%) considered Trump to be "mentally lucid". This marks a notable decline of nearly 10 points since September 2023, where 54% felt he was mentally sharp. These statistics may raise questions about Trump's fitness for office as he continues his campaign for a second term.
The implications of this perception are manifold, as they could affect Trump's support base and overall public image leading into the 2024 presidential election. The survey findings suggest a need for Trump to address concerns regarding his age and mental clarity as they may play a pivotal role in shaping voter attitudes and decisions in the upcoming election cycle.
