A memorial exhibition showcasing the stories and photographs of 36 Ukrainian children killed in Russian attacks has opened at the National Library in Latvia.
The National Library of Latvia has inaugurated a poignant exhibition titled "Angels of Kharkiv Region," which memorializes the lives of 36 Ukrainian children who were tragically killed in the ongoing conflict due to Russian bombardments. According to reports, a total of 675 Ukrainian children have lost their lives in these assaults. The exhibition features photographs accompanied by personal narratives shared by the bereaved parents, aiming to humanize the statistics and emphasize the profound loss experienced by families.
Tatjana Matjaša-Mirnaja, the exhibition's ideator and a mother who lost her son, poignantly shared her story, describing the devastating impact of the war on her family. Her son, who had just turned 11, was killed when a rocket struck their home, a horror that Matjaša-Mirnaja articulated with deep emotional resonance. She expressed gratitude for the support she received in Latvia, emphasizing the importance of voicing such traumas to ensure that the memories of these innocent lives are not forgotten.
Matjaša-Mirnaja called for open dialogue regarding the tragedy wrought by war, urging the public not to remain silent but to raise awareness about the potential for such tragedies to touch any household. The exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the human cost of armed conflict and the urgent need for compassion and advocacy for peace in Ukraine.
