AADE: Millions in cash, drugs, and thousands of contraband items seized by AADE

Greek customs authorities continue to effectively combat illegal trafficking across the country, leading to significant seizures of cash, drugs, and contraband goods.

Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has been actively working to thwart illegal trafficking at the borders, utilizing modern technology such as X-Ray scanning machines and specially trained detection dogs. The agency's diligent efforts have resulted in systematic interventions against the trafficking of cash, tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, counterfeit goods, and energy products. In the second half of 2025, targeted inspections by customs officials yielded substantial results, uncovering numerous illegal activities at airports, ports, and border crossings throughout Greece. Notably, the reported seizures involved not just cash but a variety of currencies from multiple countries, indicating the scale of the operation and the international aspect of the illegal trade. Data from these operations revealed seizures of various amounts: 355 euros, 101,230 dollars, 10,815 Canadian dollars, and significant sums in Turkish lira, shekels, British pounds, Russian rubles, and more. These findings underscore the effectiveness of Greece’s customs operations in preventing illegal trade, while also highlighting the growing challenge posed by international trafficking networks.
