AADE: The Superweapon DEOS is Coming โ Who Will Be Targeted
Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is set to launch a new service named DEOS, focused on combating various financial crimes.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) in Greece is set to introduce a significant new service called the General Directorate of Economic Transaction Control Forces (DEOS) around mid-March. This initiative follows the full integration of the Financial Crime Unit (SDOE), which took place last October. DEOS is designed to tackle all forms of economic crime and aims to enhance the countryโs efforts in financial oversight and compliance.
DEOS will have a broad mandate, concentrating on combating smuggling, tax evasion, and the control of capital movements. The agency will also target serious crimes, including the illegal trafficking of narcotics, precursor substances, firearms, and explosives, as well as the illicit trade of antiquities, monuments, memorabilia, and works of art. Additionally, DEOS will seek to identify undeclared labor and violations of social security legislation and notify the Labor Inspectorate accordingly, thereby expanding its remit to cover labor law violations as well.
To execute its mission effectively, DEOS is expected to be staffed with 80 new inspectors who will be deployed across various sectors. The establishment of this agency reflects a proactive approach by the Greek government to not only address financial crime more efficiently but also to strengthen the country's regulatory framework in line with EU standards. The initiative highlights an increasing emphasis on law enforcement in areas previously prone to financial misconduct, indicating a shift towards greater accountability and regulatory compliance within Greece's economic landscape.
