A surprising tornado scared everyone in Catamarca: the phenomenon originated in a rural area of Aconquija
An unusual weather phenomenon, described as a tornado, occurred in Aconquija, Catamarca, alarming locals but causing no injuries or significant damage.
On Monday afternoon, an unexpected weather phenomenon shocked residents of Aconquija, a locality in the Andalgalá department of Catamarca, when a tornado-like structure appeared in the rural area. Locals quickly took to social media, sharing videos that captured their astonishment at the sight, which featured a whirlwind of wind, rain, and dust. Fortunately, despite the sheer surprise it caused, the event resulted in no injuries, evacuations, or significant material damage.
The phenomenon primarily took place in an area known locally as Campo de Pucará. Witnesses described how a funnel of wind and water seemed to form almost instantaneously, creating an incredible visual and audible spectacle. One resident who recorded the event mentioned experiencing a chaotic mix of rain, gusty winds, and flying debris, highlighting the unusual nature of such weather in the northern province.
Experts, however, have suggested that this might not have been a true tornado. Rather, they indicate that it resembled a rain curtain, a different meteorological occurrence. Such phenomena can be rare in these regions, and while the excitement it generated among locals was significant, understanding the specific nature of the event may help in preparing for similar occurrences in the future.
