Finnish Lions Clubs Send Ambulances to Ukraine Again – Activist: 'One Vehicle Saves 70 People a Month'
Finnish Lions Clubs are sending ambulances to Ukraine, highlighting their ongoing support for the war-torn country, with each vehicle able to save numerous lives each month.
Three ambulances are lined up at a parking lot in a Raisio shopping center, ready to be sent to Ukraine next month, joining nine others in a humanitarian effort by Finnish Lions Clubs. Over the years, these clubs have dispatched dozens of ambulances to support the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, showcasing their commitment to aiding those in need during the war. The vehicles, purchased through donations and sourced from private ambulance companies in Finland, are no longer suitable for public transport in Finland due to their mileage but remain fully operational and valuable in Ukraine.
According to Jari Järvelä, an activist from the Lions Club of Karinaisen and Kyrön, the ambulances are equipped with emergency lighting, stretchers, and oxygen equipment. Despite being older models, the ambulances are well-regarded in Ukraine, as the rapid turnover of vehicles in Finland means that even the oldest in their collection, from 2020, are considered desirable by Ukrainian medical services. The initiative highlights the importance of international solidarity and charitable acts in times of crisis.
The Lions Clubs' effort not only provides necessary medical transport but also brings attention to the ongoing struggles faced by those in conflict regions. As this initiative continues, it emphasizes the critical role that communities and organizations can play in supporting humanitarian needs, and the positive impact that even seemingly small contributions, like sending ambulances, can have on saving lives and alleviating suffering in war-torn areas.
