Couple who died in accident on BR-020 were returning from visiting relatives in Goiás, says friend
A couple from Alvorada do Norte, João Carlos and Suellem, tragically died in a road accident while traveling back home to Brasília from a visit to family in Goiás.
João Carlos Napoli and Suellem, who had moved from Alvorada do Norte to Brasília approximately 26 years ago, were well-known in their hometown and had established a transport business. The couple frequently visited their family in Goiás, demonstrating their strong ties to their roots. They were experienced travelers, often driving to various states across Brazil, which underscored their familiarity and confidence behind the wheel.
The tragic accident occurred on Saturday, the 21st, when their VW Gol collided with a truck at kilometer 5 of the BR-020, near the bridge over the Rio Paranaíba, as reported by the Fire Department. Both João and Suellem lost their lives at the scene. Friends and family members are mourning their untimely deaths, remembering them as devoted parents who left behind two children together and three other children from João's previous relationship.
This incident highlights the dangers of road travel in Brazil, particularly on busy highways where collisions between smaller vehicles and larger trucks can result in severe consequences. The loss of João and Suellem serves as a reminder of the risks families face while on the road and the importance of road safety awareness, especially among experienced drivers who may underestimate hazards, regardless of their experience.
