Nuts may help reduce cravings for sweets, study suggests
A study indicates that regular consumption of nuts can help control appetite and reduce cravings for sugary foods.
A recent study published in the scientific journal Nutrients highlights the potential of nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, and Brazilian nuts like baru, cashew, and Parรก to aid in appetite control. The research involved 84 participants divided into two groups, one instructed to consume carbohydrate-rich snacks and the other to include 33 grams of mixed nuts. After 16 weeks, results showed that the nut group experienced a reduction in cravings for sweet foods like ice cream, candy, and cake.
Researchers assessed participants' food cravings and feelings of satiety through questionnaires and symptom scales at the start and end of the study. The findings suggest that incorporating nuts into regular snack choices could be beneficial for individuals seeking to manage their sugar intake, providing not only health benefits but also a satiety boost that may lead to healthier eating patterns.
This study's implications extend beyond just individual health, potentially informing dietary guidelines and public health strategies aimed at preventing sugar-related health issues such as obesity and diabetes. As more individuals seek ways to mitigate their sugar consumption, emphasizing nutrient-dense snacks like nuts could be a feasible approach to maintaining a balanced diet and reducing unhealthy cravings.
