Kaunas has imposed parking fees on 30 more Žaliakalnis streets, introducing a 'green-white' zone

Kaunas has expanded its parking fees to include 30 additional streets and introduced a 'green-white' parking zone to promote sustainable mobility.

In a bid to enhance sustainable mobility and alleviate parking congestion, Kaunas has expanded its parking fee system to include 30 more streets in the Žaliakalnis area. According to the documents explaining the decision, the city aims to reduce the number of cars occupying public spaces and encourage alternative modes of transportation by introducing parking fees in more areas.

The newly designated 'green' zones will charge motorists 0.5 euros per hour for parking from Monday to Friday between 8 AM and 6 PM. Additionally, five parking lots and areas in various parts of the city will also fall under this new fee structure. The city’s Transport and Traffic Organization Department noted that implementing fees for isolated streets has not been effective in creating the desired freeing-up of parking spaces.

Moreover, the article highlights that Lydos Street and its parking lot are categorized under a 'red' zone, where the hourly fee will be 2 euros every day from 8 AM to 8 PM. Furthermore, a 'green-white' parking zone has been established in the parking lot on Pašilės Street, where the same hourly rate of 0.5 euros will apply all days, regardless of the time. This action reflects the city's ongoing efforts to manage traffic flow and enhance urban mobility, making it clear that maintaining quality urban spaces is a priority.
