Reykjadalur does not receive grants and cancels part of its operations
Reykjadalur has announced the cancellation of part of its summer programs due to a lack of ongoing funding for support projects.
Reykjadalur has faced a significant setback as it announced the cancellation of some of its programs due to a lack of continued funding. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Affairs had previously supported various initiatives at Reykjadalur, but changes in funding have halted upcoming projects.
The Glรณ support association, which has operated two major initiatives for children and youth with support needs linked to ADHD, autism, and mental health challenges, will not be able to continue these programs. These initiatives included 'Adventure Camps' aimed at providing summer activities for affected children as well as 'Friend Groups' focused on community support. Without additional funding, Reykjadalur is unable to conduct these vital programs this summer.
For the past six years, these projects have flourished, providing necessary resources and support for many youths facing significant challenges. The cancellation of these programs not only affects the children directly involved but also has broader implications for community support systems designed to assist affected families. This highlights ongoing issues in securing adequate funding for essential social services, raising questions about future support for similar initiatives next summer.
