Not Enrolled in Four Preschools in Reykjavik This Fall
Four preschools in Reykjavik will not be accepting new enrollments this fall due to ongoing construction work.
This year, four preschools in Reykjavik, namely Hagaborg, Sæborg, Borg, and Vinagerði, will not be enrolling new children due to maintenance and construction activities. Parents who had selected these preschools in their applications have been advised to amend their choices. Currently enrolled children will be relocated to other facilities as a result of these closures.
The affected preschools are situated in three different neighborhoods across the city, with Hagaborg and Sæborg located in the western part of Reykjavik, while Borg is in Breiðholt, and Vinagerði is in district 108 but has been operated in Safamýri for the past few months. Although these closures will eliminate 169 existing preschool places, Reykjavik is expected to have 277 new spots available in the upcoming year, partially offsetting the loss.
City officials have emphasized the importance for parents to review their preschool applications before the significant allocation period, which begins on March 2, 2026. This process is crucial for ensuring that families secure available placements amid the changes in preschool operations due to the construction projects initiated by the city.
