A powerful natural disaster wreaked havoc in a tourist 'paradise': some travelers had to be evacuated
Heavy rains in Bali caused flooding, necessitating the evacuation of tourists in affected areas, although no casualties were reported.
Heavy rainfall that commenced on Monday evening has led to significant flooding in several areas of Bali and the provincial capital, Denpasar. According to a senior official from the local disaster prevention agency, although the floods have caused disruptions, they have reported no casualties. The flooding inundated cafes and a gas station in the Badung area, prompting authorities to evacuate around 30 foreign tourists via rubber boats, with some relocating to other hotels or later returning to their accommodations.
On Tuesday, approximately 350 individuals sought temporary shelter due to the rising water levels, but most were able to return home after the water receded. Meanwhile, air travel was also affected, as two international flights headed for Bali's airport were redirected, and three departures were delayed on the same day, according to an airport spokesperson. This incident brings back memories of a severe flooding event in September that resulted in at least 18 fatalities, marking the worst flooding on the island in over a decade.
