Zelensky admitted whether he will run for a second presidential term
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the possibility of running for a second term, stating it will depend on the circumstances surrounding elections in Ukraine amid ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the current disapproval from both the parliament and society regarding the organization of elections, emphasizing that this stance could change if ceasefire conditions are established. He expressed a desire for a two-month ceasefire period to facilitate a swift start to the election process, despite the ongoing complexities in achieving any agreement with Russia regarding a halt to hostilities.
During a recent statement, Zelensky highlighted the importance of Ukrainian elections being determined by the will of the people rather than interference from foreign nations, namely the U.S. or Russia. He pointed out the peculiar situation where discussions about Ukrainian elections were initially brought forth by Russian officials, which were later echoed by American representatives, prompting a reflection on the sovereignty of Ukraine's political processes.
When questioned about his potential candidacy for a second term, Zelensky replied that this would be conditional on the state of affairs in Ukraine. If the nation remains in a state of war, he is more inclined to run, but under peaceful circumstances, he is uncertain, stating that he initially aimed for a single presidential term, which he intends to complete despite the prolonged crisis.
