Driver says he did not see car with lights off, crashes into rear and passenger dies in ES
A passenger died in a rear-end collision in Vargem Alta, Brazil, due to the other car's lights being off.
A tragic car accident occurred on the ES-164 highway in Vargem Alta, Espírito Santo, where a 47-year-old man, Renaldo Soledade da Silva de Almeida, lost his life after being involved in a collision between two vehicles. The driver of a Ducato, aged 66, reported to the police that he did not see the Gol in front of him due to its rear lights being turned off, which led him to crash into it. Although he wasn't injured, the impact of the accident was severe enough to result in a fatality.
Inside the Gol were three passengers, with Renaldo being the only one who tragically did not survive. He was trapped in the wreckage and despite emergency responders' efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Gol, aged 29, along with another passenger, who is 28, sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical attention. This incident underscores the importance of vehicle maintenance and visibility on the road, especially during night-time driving conditions.
The local police have highlighted that the driver of the Ducato was not under the influence of alcohol, as indicated by a negative breathalyzer test. However, the underlying issue remains regarding the safety of vehicles operating with non-functional lights, which can significantly endanger other road users, leading to similarly tragic consequences. This accident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for drivers to regularly check their vehicle lights and adhere to road safety protocols to protect themselves and others.
