A dramatic rescue took place on BR-101 in Tubarão, Southern Santa Catarina, where a mother duck and her nine ducklings were trapped on the roadway, facing the imminent danger of being run over. The local Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the ducks were attempting to cross the busy highway when they found themselves stuck near a dividing wall. This incident took place on Monday afternoon, highlighting the hazards that wildlife face near busy roads.

In response to this perilous situation, the PRF took immediate action by briefly halting traffic, using cones to ensure the safety of both the animals and the rescuers. This intervention allowed police officers to approach the wall and carefully remove the mother duck and her ducklings from the traffic-heavy area. The quick thinking and actions of the PRF officers were crucial in preventing a potential tragedy on the road.

After the successful rescue, the duck family was taken to the Veterinary Medical Complex of the University of Southern Santa Catarina (Unisul) for thorough medical examinations and care. The PRF noted that roadways pose significant risks to wildlife, emphasizing the ongoing challenges that species like the irerê duck face in urbanized environments, where human infrastructure overlaps with their natural habitats.
