The municipality of Raanua does not expect to recover debts from the sports club

The Raanua municipal council does not anticipate recovering outstanding debts from the Raanua Reindeer sports club, which owes the municipality over €660,000.

The Raanua municipal council has announced that it does not expect to recover the debts owed by the Raanua Reindeer sports club, which totals slightly more than €660,000. The municipal council decided to write down this amount in the financial statements for the last fiscal year, reflecting its recognition of the financial difficulties faced by the sports club. Mirva Salmela, the chairwoman of the municipal council, stated that despite the write-down, the municipality's financial situation remains stable, projecting a positive balance of over €300,000 for the 2025 financial year.

The Raanua Reindeer sports club is significant to the local community as it operates the only major sports hall in the area, known as Peuransarvi, which is also utilized by local school children. Salmela expressed hope that the club would eventually overcome its financial challenges and continue its vital work in promoting physical activity among residents. This sentiment underscores the importance of the sports club in fostering community engagement and sports participation within Raanua.

Additionally, there is ongoing consideration within the municipality regarding the potential acquisition of the sports hall owned by the sports club, indicating that the council is exploring ways to ensure the continued operation of this important facility for the benefit of local residents. Such a move could enhance municipal control over community resources and provide a sustainable solution for the club’s ongoing financial issues.
