Water supply suspended in some neighborhoods of Salvador for repair of water main; see list
Water supply has been interrupted in 13 neighborhoods of Salvador for emergency repairs on a water main, with service expected to resume gradually.
Water supply has been suspended in 13 neighborhoods of Salvador due to emergency repairs on a water main, which began on Tuesday morning. The Empresa Baiana de Águas e Saneamento (Embasa) stated that the repair work is necessary to restore normal water distribution in the affected areas. It is anticipated that the service will be completed by Tuesday night, with water gradually being returned to residents.
As the repairs involve a primary water line supplying a large distribution reservoir, the process of restoring the water supply will take time. The reservoirs need to be refilled and pressurized before water can be distributed effectively to the higher points of the neighborhoods. Consequently, some residences may not experience the return of normal water supply for up to 48 hours following the initial restoration, prompting the authorities to advise residents to conserve their stored water during this period.
To mitigate the impact of the water supply suspension, alternative measures such as water delivery via trucks are being provided. This highlights the role of local agencies in ensuring residents have access to water, especially in times of emergency and the importance of infrastructure maintenance to secure reliable services for communities in Salvador.
