On the fourth anniversary of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, gatherings and demonstrations were held across Japan to call for the end of the war and show solidarity with Ukraine.

The night of April 24 marked the fourth anniversary of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, prompting numerous gatherings and demonstrations across Japan advocating for peace and an end to the conflict. Notably, at Shibuya's Hachiko square in Tokyo, a solidarity event organized by the citizen group 'Stand With Ukraine Japan' drew a diverse crowd of Ukrainian residents and supporters, who displayed placards reading 'No to War' and 'Peace for Ukraine'. The atmosphere at the event was emotional, with attendees visibly moved, some shedding tears and embracing each other in solidarity.

Among the attendees was Hiroko Konishi, a 73-year-old volunteer who has been actively supporting Ukraine since the incursion began. She expressed her dedication to helping Ukrainian youth who have sought refuge in Japan, stating her desire to ensure they do not give up on their lives. This sentiment encapsulates the broader commitment of many Japanese citizens who wish to assist those affected by the ongoing conflict, emphasizing the importance of cultural understanding in sustaining support for Ukraine.

Demonstrations were also held in Kobe and Osaka, where participants echoed similar calls for support. The engagements highlight not only the consequences of the war but also Japan's evolving role as a sanctuary and supporter of Ukrainians fleeing the violence. As public gatherings continue, they serve as a poignant reminder of the international collective responsibility to seek peace and uphold the values of humanity in the face of such strife.
