Extension construction of the 7th tram line in Riga reallocates 1.4 million euros

The Latvian government has decided to reallocate 1.374 million euros for the extension of the 7th tram line in Riga, raising the total project budget to 29.449 million euros.

The Latvian government has taken a significant step in expanding the 7th tram line in Riga by reallocating 1.374 million euros from other transportation projects. This adjustment increases the total funding for the tram line extension project to 29.449 million euros. The expansion will include the construction of a substation on Brīvības Street as part of the project's broader scope.

Additionally, the government has decided to extend the project completion deadline for the construction of eight mobility points in Riga and its suburbs by two months, moving it from May 31, 2026, to July 31, 2026. The Ministry of Transport (SM) explains that the funds for the tram line works will be sourced from savings made in a project aimed at procuring electric buses and developing an electric charging network in Riga, which provides an efficient reallocation of budgetary resources.

This financial maneuver not only ensures the continuation of transport infrastructure improvements in Riga but also illustrates an adaptive approach to funding significant urban transport projects. The total allocation for the construction of the eight mobility hubs has now reached 60.744 million euros, signalling the government's commitment to enhancing public transport in the capital and its surrounding areas.
