More Than Half of Young Spanish Men See Feminism as a ‘Political Manipulation Tool’
A survey reveals that over half of young men in Spain view feminism as a tool of political manipulation, while a significant portion of young people identify as feminists has decreased since 2021.
A recent survey conducted by Fad Juventud has revealed that more than half of young men in Spain, specifically 51.5%, believe that feminism is primarily used as a political manipulation tool. This perception is significantly increasing, having doubled over the past five years. In contrast, young women have also shown a decline in support for feminism, with only 38.8% viewing it positively, indicating wider societal skepticism surrounding feminist ideologies among the youth.
Additionally, the survey indicated that only 38.4% of young Spaniards now identify as feminists, down nearly 12 percentage points from the peak in 2021 when the number stood at 49.9%. This decline raises concerns about the younger generation’s attitudes toward gender equality and women's rights, especially as a growing number of youth seem to conflate feminist principles with political agendas.
The implications of this survey are profound as they reflect a significant cultural shift in the understanding and acceptance of feminism among Spanish youth. As more young men view feminism skeptically, there is a potential risk of regressing on gender equality progress if such views become mainstream. This changing dynamic emphasizes the need for more dialogue and education around feminism and gender issues to address misconceptions and foster a more favorable perception of equality movements.
