The percentage of young people declaring themselves feminists falls to 38.4% and 49.2% perceive it as a "manipulation tool," according to Fad Youth
A recent study reveals a decline in the number of young people in Spain identifying as feminists, with nearly half viewing feminism as a tool of political manipulation.
A new report from Fad Juventud highlights a significant decrease in the number of young people in Spain who identify as feminists, dropping from 49.9% in 2021 to 38.4%. This study, conducted with a sample of 3,327 residents aged 15 to 29, found that nearly half of the respondents (49.2%) perceive feminism as a political manipulation tool rather than a social movement aimed at equality.
The Barómetro de Juventud y Género 2025, presented by Fad Juventud, reflects a worrying trend in the attitudes of the younger generation towards feminism, which has experienced fluctuating support over the years. The research, conducted between April and May of 2025, has involved a substantial analysis of youth perceptions regarding gender roles and feminism, emphasizing the need for more dialogue and education surrounding these topics.
This decline in support for feminism among young people might indicate a broader misunderstanding of the movement's objectives, suggesting that more effective communication and education about feminism's goals and achievements are necessary. As views on gender equality continue to evolve, this report raises concerns about how the younger demographic understands and supports gender rights in contemporary society.
