Round Table Held on 'Croatian Biblical Translations'
A round table discussion on Croatian biblical translations was held in Croatia featuring various speakers and the introduction of a new comprehensive Catholic Bible translation.
The round table titled 'On Croatian Biblical Translations' was organized in a small hall at the Matica hrvatska institution, featuring notable speakers such as Igor Marko Gligorić, Boris Beck, Zrinka Jelaska, and Taras Barščevski. The event focused on the significance and impact of biblical translations in Croatian culture and the ongoing efforts to create accessible versions of sacred texts for the local population.
The highlight of the event was the introduction of the 'Nova Biblija,' which presents the first complete Catholic translation of the Bible directly from its original languages, including Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. This translation aims to retain the integrity and authenticity of the original texts while ensuring comprehensibility, departing from literal translations only when necessary to enhance understanding.
This new biblical translation is a significant cultural and publishing endeavor that has engaged top biblical scholars, with contributions from over 20 specialists including 23 translators and experts in Croatian language. Published by the Croatian Bible Society in Zagreb, the Splitska publishing house Verbum, and Naša ognjišta from Tomislavgrad, this project has been in development for more than two decades and reflects the dedication to providing a faithful and accessible scripture for the Croatian-speaking community.
