Former manager targeted by Federal Police over suspicion of moving customer accounts and causing a loss of R$ 1 million

A former manager of Caixa Econômica Federal is under investigation by Brazil's Federal Police for allegedly diverting R$ 1 million through unauthorized transactions.

The Federal Police of Santa Catarina launched Operation 'No Remorse' targeting a former manager of Caixa Econômica Federal, who is suspected of misappropriating approximately R$ 1 million through unauthorized withdrawals and transactions, predominantly affecting elderly clients. The operation took place in Dionísio Cerqueira, where a search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence, resulting in the seizure of documents, a mobile phone, and a luxury vehicle. The suspect's identity has not been disclosed to the public.

The investigation was initiated after Caixa Econômica Federal started an administrative process against the employee, leading to their termination in July 2023 due to conduct deemed incompatible with their position. According to the Federal Police, the crime being investigated is peculation (the embezzlement of public funds). Authorities are using the evidence collected during the operation to further investigate the case and ascertain if there are additional parties involved in the fraudulent activities.

This operation highlights the ongoing issues of financial fraud targeting vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, and underscores the significant impact of internal misconduct within financial institutions. The Federal Police's actions signal their commitment to tackling such crimes and protecting citizens from financial exploitation.
