Nils Ušakovs has left the board of the party "Saskaņa"
Nils Ušakovs has stepped down from the board of Latvia's "Saskaņa" party to focus on his role as the EU budget rapporteur for 2027.
Nils Ušakovs, a Member of the European Parliament, has announced his departure from the board of the political party "Saskaņa." He clarified that this decision was made in order to concentrate on his responsibilities regarding the European Union's budget for 2027. Ušakovs expressed his commitment to remain a member of the party and has no intentions of leaving, dispelling any notions of underlying motives behind his decision to step down.
Despite his resignation from the board, Ušakovs indicated that he is heavily involved in the preparation for the EU budget and emphasized the ongoing work on the budget guidelines for 2027. He is also engaged in the formulation of the multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034. His responsibilities as the lead rapporteur for the EU budget represent a significant commitment, which he believes warrants his focus away from party board activities.
Ušakovs' departure raises questions about the internal dynamics within "Saskaņa," especially as he did not participate in the party's recent congress. While he has not publicly commented on the party's transformation process or his long-term plans with "Saskaņa," his active role in the EU budget discussions suggests his priorities lie firmly at the European level, which could influence his future engagement with local party politics.
