PiS wants to establish a new service that could arrest even civilians?
The Polish government party PiS proposed creating a new military formation based on the Military Gendarmerie to enhance internal security and police support, raising concerns over potential civilian arrests.
During a defense debate in Stalowa Wola, Poland, the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) suggested establishing a new military formation based on the existing Military Gendarmerie (Ε»andarmeria Wojskowa). This proposed formation would not only continue to perform its current responsibilities under the Ministry of National Defense but also assist police forces and, in certain situations, replace the Territorial Defense Forces. According to PiS politicians, the personnel of the Military Gendarmerie could increase significantly from 3,300 to as many as 50,000.
