A sad incident occurred in the Jaguara region of Tiros, Minas Gerais, where a pup of the giant anteater was found clinging to its dead mother on a roadway. The local environmental police were alerted by a passerby, a motorist who witnessed the heartbreaking sight and sought help. Upon the arrival of the rescue team around 1 PM on Saturday, they found both animals lying on the highway, with the adult female suspected to have fallen victim to a traffic accident.

The pup, estimated to be between 6 to 8 months old, appeared to be in good health despite the traumatic experience. A veterinarian who assessed the situation through images indicated that at this age, the anteater pup has already transitioned to a solid diet, consuming ants and termites, and does not rely on its mother's milk. This fact provides some hope for its survival following the unfortunate loss of its mother.
