Poll Interview: 53% Predict a Third Term for New Democracy – How Many Would Vote for Tsipras and Karystianos
A recent poll shows that 53% of respondents believe in the possibility of a third government term for Greece's New Democracy party, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with a significant lead in voter intention over other parties.
New polling data from Interview, commissioned by the Politic, reveals that the New Democracy party (Ν.Δ.) remains the frontrunner in Greek politics, with 26.4% of voter support. The poll indicates a 14.4-point lead over its closest rival, the socialist party PASOK at 12%. Furthermore, 53% of respondents foresee the possibility of a third term for the New Democracy party, emphasizing the political dominance of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who continues to retain the confidence of the electorate in terms of suitability for leadership.
Despite the New Democracy's significant lead, the data also highlights complexities within the electoral landscape, as 70% of participants do not foresee the party achieving an outright majority in the upcoming elections. A notable 44% of voters expressed a desire for political change, suggesting that while the current government may be favored, there is also substantial support for alternatives. This sentiment underscores a potentially turbulent electoral environment ahead.
The poll results further show a mix of support for smaller parties, with the Plurality of Freedom (Πλεύση Ελευθερίας) receiving 7%, followed closely by the Greek Solution (Ελληνική Λύση) at 6.4% and the Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) at 6.0%. Other parties like SYRIZA and additional smaller groups show modest support around 3%, indicating a fragmented opposition landscape. Overall, the poll results reflect a significant balance of power but suggest that New Democracy's path to re-election may not be as smooth as perceived, with changing voter sentiments and desires for political transformation.
