The National Korean Literature Museum has announced Kwack Jong-seok and Kim Chang-suk as the 'Literary Figures of March,' recognizing their pivotal roles in the independence movement against Japanese colonial rule in Korea. Both were prominent intellectuals who mobilized scholars throughout the country to prepare a petition, known as the 'Paris Petition,' to be presented at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919-1920. This initiative reflected their deep commitment to national liberation and cultural identity, with Kim Chang-suk particularly advocating for the involvement of Confucian scholars in the independence efforts, stating the moral responsibility of Confucianism in the face of national calamity.
