M. Sinkevičius says he is not preparing for the presidential elections

M. Sinkevičius affirmed that he is not preparing for the 2029 presidential elections, but aims to engage more deeply in foreign policy matters.

M. Sinkevičius, speaking on 'Žinių radijas', clarified that he has no intentions of preparing for the 2029 presidential elections. Instead, he expressed a genuine interest in enhancing Lithuania's foreign policy, which he believes has been somewhat neglected in the past. Sinkevičius emphasized that his focus is on offering support in foreign policy endeavors rather than seeking personal political gain.

He noted that the opposition may not be pleased with his increased involvement in foreign policy but stressed that this does not aim to undermine or take over the presidential institution. Instead, he seeks to ensure that Lithuania's foreign policies are well-directed and beneficial to the state. The context of his comments hints at a collaborative rather than competitive approach to foreign policy among current government members.

Additionally, discussions within political circles suggest that Sinkevičius' and Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė's more active roles in foreign affairs may stem from a lack of confidence in Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys. However, Ruginienė maintained that the public has perhaps simply become unaccustomed to seeing a proactive approach in foreign policy from government officials, indicating a shift in how the administration might engage with international relations moving forward.
