M. Sinkevičius has not yet decided whether to continue his work as the leader of LSDP
M. Sinkevičius is postponing his decision on whether to continue as the leader of the LSDP due to ongoing discussions within his party.
M. Sinkevičius, currently the leader of the LSDP, mentioned he is waiting to make a decision on his leadership position as his local party section has yet to hold a general assembly, which is scheduled for the second half of March. During this time, he is participating in meetings and assessing potential candidates who might take on leadership roles. He believes several capable leaders could emerge within the party, but he has not determined his own future in this context, indicating that a decision will be delayed by several weeks.
He highlighted that this decision requires serious consideration and is a significant commitment that extends beyond his current role. Sinkevicius pointed out that the choice is not one to be made lightly—it involves weighing both work commitments and family considerations. He emphasized that this decision is much more complex than simple daily choices, such as selecting groceries, and requires thorough evaluation of his circumstances.
Earlier, Nerijus Cesiulis, the mayor of Alytus, expressed his willingness to consider participating in the upcoming LSDP leadership elections in the spring. Additionally, Robert Duchnevičius, the mayor of Vilnius region, announced in mid-February that he is also contemplating a run for the leadership position. The LSDP faces potential competition as other candidates weigh their options, adding to the dynamics of the upcoming party elections.
