Rinkēvičs: It has become clear - the end of the war will be neither quick nor easy

Latvian President Rinkēvičs emphasizes the prolonged nature of the war in Ukraine and urges support for Ukrainians affected by the conflict.

In a recent address, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs reflected on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing that it has been four long years since innocent lives have been lost due to the war. He highlighted Russia's intentional efforts to erase Ukraine from the world and European maps, indicating that this war has not only altered the global order but has also awakened a collective empathy among nations, particularly in Latvia. The President expressed gratitude to those who have donated and provided practical assistance to both Ukrainian refugees in Latvia and people within Ukraine itself.

As the conflict marks its four-year anniversary since the full-scale Russian invasion, Latvian Public Media (LSM) has partnered with "Ziedot.lv" to launch their fifth support campaign for Ukraine, running from February 9 to 24. The aim of this campaign is to raise funds specifically for communities in Ukraine that have been devastated by the ongoing conflict. The funds raised will be allocated towards providing generators and heating solutions to ensure these communities can maintain essential services amidst the destruction caused by the war.

Beyond providing immediate assistance, this campaign also serves to remind the public of the severity of the situation in Ukraine and the need for continued solidarity. By encouraging contributions through various means, including phone donations and online support via ziedot.lv/Uk, the initiative seeks to foster ongoing compassion and support for Ukraine during this humanitarian crisis. Rinkēvičs's remarks serve as a sobering reminder of the war's long-term implications and the necessity of international engagement to aid those in need.
