Turku will start charging for moving incorrectly parked electric scooters in March

The city of Turku, Finland, will implement a fee for moving improperly parked electric scooters starting in March.

The city council of Turku has approved a plan to charge for the relocation of incorrectly parked electric scooters, with fees set at 20 euros for short-distance moves and 40 euros if the scooter is transported to the city's storage facility. Additional costs include 25 euros for arrangement expenses and 15 euros per week for storage, along with 10 euros in administrative fees. The charges will be billed to electric scooter rental companies, who may then pass the costs onto the users who parked the scooters improperly.

The city expects that the new fees will create a system that encourages proper parking of electric scooters, as they have become increasingly popular in urban areas. However, city officials have indicated that it is difficult to predict how much demand for the relocation service will arise and how much work will actually be involved in monitoring and enforcing scooter parking regulations. This new initiative could potentially lead to adjustments in fees as the city gauges the necessary workload.

In addition to the new electric scooter fees, the city council has also increased fees related to the movement of other vehicles, indicating a broader strategy to manage urban mobility and ensure compliance with parking rules. Starting from the beginning of March, these charges will come into effect, reflecting Turku's responsiveness to the growing trends in transportation and public space management.
