SP government opens a selective process to hire 243 temporary firefighters
The São Paulo government is initiating a selection process to hire 243 temporary firefighters for wildfire prevention and combat across the state.
The São Paulo government has announced the opening of a selection process on Tuesday (24) to hire 243 temporary firefighters. These individuals will be responsible for wildfire prevention and combat within Conservation Units throughout the state. The selection is managed by the Forest Foundation, which is part of the State's Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil). It is a crucial recruitment aimed at enhancing the state's capacity to manage and mitigate the risks associated with wildfires.
The firefighters will receive salaries ranging from R$ 2,431.50 to R$ 4,052.50, along with additional benefits such as meal assistance, transportation vouchers, childcare assistance (when applicable), life insurance, and daily allowances for travel. The application process is free and will be conducted online from February 24 to March 10, 2026. Contracts are expected to last six months, aligning with the higher incidence of wildfires occurring between April and November, indicating a well-timed response to seasonal environmental challenges.
This hiring initiative is part of the broader "São Paulo without Fire" operation, reflecting the government's proactive approach to environmental management. By increasing the number of temporary firefighters, the state aims to bolster its wildfire response capabilities and protect its rich biodiversity, which is increasingly threatened by climate change and human activities. The move highlights the importance of government commitment to safeguarding the environment and ensuring public safety during periods of high environmental risk.
