One-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine will be commemorated in Lithuania with solidarity events
Lithuania will mark the one-year anniversary of the Ukraine war with solidarity events, including marches and concerts in various cities.
Lithuania is set to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine through a series of solidarity events across key cities, including Vilnius and Kaunas. The main event in Vilnius will feature a march titled "Our Flags are Freedom Flags!", starting from the Ukrainian square and culminating at Lukiškės Square, where a final concert of the 'Radarom' campaign will take place. Participants will also have the opportunity to donate funds for the purchase of robot units to support Ukraine's defense efforts.
The celebration in Lukiškės Square will also include the lighting of 12 memorial fires and performances by prominent Lithuanian artists. Community leaders are expected to share their insights, stories, and experiences during the events, reinforcing the message of solidarity and support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict. Journalist and event organizer Edmundas Jakilaitis emphasized the importance of financial aid, stating that while some may believe that diplomacy will dictate the outcome of the war, daily attacks by Russia necessitate continued support to ensure Ukraine's resilience and victory.
Meanwhile, events in Kaunas will also promote solidarity, with activities planned in locations such as Freedom Alley and Student Square. Participants will honor the memory of victims by lighting candles at a monument for Roma Kalanta, symbolically organizing them into the shape of the Ukrainian flag. These activities reflect Lithuania's commitment to standing by Ukraine during this challenging time, illustrating the depth of community solidarity and the resolve to contribute to Ukraine's defense efforts.
