The Crime Map of the City: a historic decrease in robberies and homicides
Crime rates in Buenos Aires have reached the lowest levels in 31 years, making the city the second safest in the Americas.
Authorities in Buenos Aires have released the latest Crime Map, revealing a historic decline in crime rates over the past year. With homicides at a rate of 2.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, the city is now positioned as the second safest in the Americas, just behind Ottawa, Canada. This marks the ninth consecutive year that the report has shown a decrease in criminal activity, indicating a positive trend for the safety of residents and visitors alike.
In 2025, the report noted 78 homicides in total, averaging one victim every five days. Notably, the highest percentage of these deaths resulted from altercations and acts of revenge, accounting for 27% of the total. Comparatively, other categories of crime, such as motor vehicle theft and armed robbery, also saw significant declines, with motor vehicle theft hitting the lowest numbers since official records began almost two decades ago.
This preliminary report indicates a 3% decrease in homicides and a remarkable 54% reduction in motor vehicle theft. This data not only underscores successful law enforcement strategies but also paints a hopeful picture for urban safety in Buenos Aires as the authorities continue to prioritize crime reduction measures, potentially influencing future policies and public perceptions of safety in the city.
