Russian MP: US attack on Iran will ignite serious collective confrontation
Leonid Slutsky, head of the Russian parliament's international affairs committee, warns that a U.S. military attack on Iran could lead to a dangerous escalation and a collective confrontation.
Leonid Slutsky, who is the head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Parliament, has expressed deep concern regarding the potential for military confrontation with Iran. Speaking on Al Jazeera's evening program, he cautioned that a U.S. attack could lead to a concerning escalation and trigger a collective response from various nations. Slutsky emphasized the importance of resolving issues through negotiations and rational discourse rather than resorting to warfare, asserting that Russia would not participate in any confrontation against the United States regarding Iran.
In his comments, Slutsky responded to criticism concerning Russia's alliances with countries like Iran, Syria, and Venezuela. He stressed that Russia upholds international laws and insists that the U.S. must comply with international regulations and not act unilaterally outside the United Nations Security Council. He criticized the unipolar world order that the U.S. attempts to impose, labeling it a global threat, while advocating for a multipolar world order that respects the sovereignty and independence of all nations.
Slutsky concluded by reaffirming Russia's commitment to peace and maintaining international balance. He highlighted the necessity for cooperation and dialogue among global powers, arguing that respecting national sovereignty is crucial for regional and global stability. This perspective aligns with Russia's broader foreign policy goals, which often challenge U.S. dominance in international affairs.
