Couple arrested after stealing R$ 224 from a 91-year-old visually impaired man in DF
A couple was arrested in Brazil for stealing money from a vulnerable 91-year-old man with visual impairment.
On the morning of Monday, June 23, in the Federal District of Brazil, a couple was arrested by the Military Police after stealing R$ 224 from a 91-year-old visually impaired man. The incident occurred in Núcleo Bandeirante, where witnesses reported that the couple approached the elderly victim, taking advantage of his vulnerability to steal money from his shirt pocket. Following the crime, witnesses observed the couple dividing the stolen money between them.
After receiving a call on emergency number 190 about the theft, police arrived on the scene and were able to track down the suspects near the bridge connecting Metropolitana and Núcleo Bandeirante. They were found in possession of R$ 224, although some of the money had already been spent on alcohol and cigarettes. This has raised concerns about the targeting of vulnerable individuals in society, particularly the elderly.
Both individuals have prior criminal records, which raises further questions regarding the prevalence of crime against vulnerable populations. The police have charged the couple with aggravated theft, reflecting the serious nature of their crime against a defenseless elderly person, highlighting ongoing issues related to crime and safety in urban areas of Brazil.
