The latest report from the Drought Monitoring tool by the Secretariat of Environment and Water Resources of Piauí indicates that all 224 municipalities in the state are facing some level of drought, with 49 classified under extreme drought conditions. Despite a gradual increase in rainfall observed in January, the overall circumstances remain dire as 132 municipalities are under moderate drought and 84 under severe drought. The number of municipalities in extreme drought has decreased from 56 in December 2025, showing some improvement, but the challenge of drought persists statewide.
