Civil Defense maintains red alert for rain until Friday (27) throughout the São Paulo coast

The São Paulo Civil Defense has issued a red alert for heavy rain along the coast until Friday, raising concerns about landslides and flooding.

The Civil Defense of São Paulo State has renewed its red alert due to predicted heavy rainfall that could accumulate up to 175 mm by Friday. This warning highlights concerns about potential landslides and flooding in regions already experiencing these hazardous events. In particular, areas such as the Vale do Ribeira and Baixada Santista are expected to suffer the most from this heavy rainfall.

According to Lieutenant Maxwel Souza, communications director for Civil Defense, the forecast indicates that some locations might receive even more significant amounts of rainfall. Furthermore, the Grande São Paulo, Vale do Paraíba, Itapeva, Sorocaba, and Campinas are all included in the high rainfall risk zone, which may lead to severe issues for local populations if adequate measures aren't taken.

In response to the ongoing situation, the state's crisis cabinet will remain operational through at least Thursday. This initiative aims to facilitate the swift deployment of rescue teams from Civil Defense and firefighters should the need arise due to adverse weather conditions, thus ensuring a prompt response to emergencies in affected areas.
