Moraes orders PM-DF to explain visits to Anderson Torres outside authorized hours
Minister Alexandre de Moraes has ordered the Police Command of the Federal District to clarify unauthorized visits to former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres in prison within 48 hours.
Alexander de Moraes, a minister of the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF), has mandated the 19th Battalion of the Federal District Police to clarify within 48 hours regarding two visits made to former Justice Minister Anderson Torres at the Papudinha prison that reportedly occurred outside the authorized visiting hours. According to a dispatch released on Monday, Moraes noted that the latest visitation report submitted by the police to the Supreme Court showed that João Torres Filho, Anderson's father, and Patrícia Gisele Torres, his sister, visited him on February 11 from 5 PM to 7 PM, which was beyond the allowed visiting times.
Moraes has established specific visiting days and times for Torres, limiting visits to Wednesdays and Saturdays during three designated time slots: 8 AM to 10 AM, 11 AM to 1 PM, and 2 PM to 4 PM. The unauthorized visits contrast sharply with these regulations, raising concerns regarding compliance with judicial orders in the legal proceedings surrounding Torres's case.
This decision comes as part of Moraes's oversight of a coup-related investigation. He has underscored the necessity of adhering to the rules set for visitation in order to maintain legal integrity and ensure that judicial proceedings are not compromised. The implications of this situation may extend beyond the immediate clarification required, potentially influencing the broader investigation into Torres's involvement in alleged anti-democratic activities.
