Oberföhring: Fire Brigade Rescues Woman from the Isar

Emergency responders successfully rescued a young woman from drowning in the Isar River after she was heard calling for help by a passerby.

On Saturday evening, a coordinated rescue operation by first responders and emergency services saved a young woman who was struggling in the Isar River, possibly facing drowning. A passerby heard her cries for help while walking in Herzogpark and promptly alerted the Integrated Control Center. Within minutes, a large number of emergency personnel were dispatched, and the caller ran along Heinrich-Mann-Allee, providing continuous updates about the woman's location as rescuers raced to her aid.

Five minutes after the alarm was raised, an emergency medical vehicle arrived, followed closely by a volunteer fire service vehicle two minutes later. During the response, a firefighter equipped himself with a wetsuit, life jacket, and helmet and jumped into the Isar to reach the woman, who was struggling and going underwater repeatedly. Thanks to the quick actions of the rescuers and assistance from other helpers, they were able to pull the shocked and hypothermic woman to safety on land, after which she was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.

The incident raises awareness of the critical need for timely emergency response and the important role that bystanders can play in life-threatening situations. The exact circumstances surrounding how the woman ended up in the water are still unclear, prompting investigations into safety measures at recreational areas near rivers. This event highlights the public's responsibility and the importance of emergency services in protecting lives even in everyday recreational settings.
