Netherlands' youngest and first LGBTQ Prime Minister born

The Netherlands has elected its youngest and first openly gay Prime Minister, Rob Jetten.

On January 23, 2023, Rob Jetten, leader of the centrist left-wing party Democrat 66 (D66), was sworn in as Prime Minister of the Netherlands, making history as both the youngest Prime Minister at age 38 and the first openly gay individual to hold the position. Jetten's rise in politics began in 2017 when he first entered the House of Representatives, subsequently becoming the party leader in 2022, as well as serving as Minister for Climate and Energy Policy in the previous coalition government. His journey reflects a significant shift in Dutch political dynamics, especially as he leads a party that recently surged to become the largest in the House during an early election held in October 2022.
