Gang Rape on a Ship to Sweden – Police Reveals Disturbing Information

Finnish police report new details about a gang rape incident that allegedly occurred on a cruise ship to Sweden in October, leading to multiple arrests.

Authorities in Finland have completed the initial investigation into a disturbing gang rape incident that occurred aboard the Viking Grace cruise ship during a trip to Sweden last autumn. The police suspect that the assault was videotaped, with three men accused of committing the serious crime and an additional suspect believed to have recorded the events. The incident took place in a cabin during the early hours of October 18, involving both the victim and suspects, who are all in their twenties.

The police were alerted to the reported sexual crime by the ship's crew upon arrival in Stockholm, but since the alleged crime occurred in Finnish territorial waters, the investigation fell to the authorities in southwestern Finland. Four suspects were arrested in Turku on October 19 when the ship returned to Finland, with one being released less than 24 hours later. The remaining suspects were freed by Wednesday, October 22, as discrepancies in their testimonies related to the events began to surface.

This case raises significant concerns about safety on cruise ships and the measures in place to protect passengers from such crimes. It also highlights the complexities of legal jurisdiction in international waters, posing questions about how such incidents will be addressed in the future and what support systems are available for victims of sexual assault in similar settings.
